⧗Timer & Stopwatch

A countdown timer and a stopwatch with lap times, both running in the tab.

The caveat worth knowing up front: browsers throttle timers in background tabs to save battery. Elapsed time stays broadly correct, but the display refreshes less often, and for anything where precision genuinely matters you want the tab visible or a dedicated device.

Nothing persists. Reloading the page clears everything, including recorded laps.

What the lap function is actually good for

Measuring how long the individual steps of a routine process take. People are consistently poor at estimating this — a task everyone calls a five-minute job turns out to take eighteen, and timing it once tends to change how it gets scheduled from then on.

It is also the honest way to check whether a process improvement worked, rather than relying on it feeling faster.

Pomodoro

The classic cycle is 25 minutes of work and a 5 minute break, with a longer break every fourth round. The specific numbers matter far less than actually stopping when the timer does — which is the part most people skip, and the part that makes it work.

No alarm

The display reaches zero and that is it. Browsers restrict pages from playing sound without a prior interaction, and a notification from a background tab is easy to miss anyway. Keep it where you can see it.

Both run independently on the same page, so you can time an overall session while measuring segments inside it.
