Density is a rough signal only - write for readers first.

There is no correct keyword density, and any number you have been given is made up.

Density as a ranking factor died well over a decade ago. Search engines work on meaning now, and text written to hit a percentage reads exactly like text written to hit a percentage — readers notice before algorithms do.

So this is a diagnostic tool, not a target. What it is genuinely good for is answering one question: is this page about what I think it is about?

Paste a page you have written and look at the top few terms. If you wrote about roof repairs and the leading words are service, quality, team and professional, the page is about your company rather than about roof repairs. That is a real finding, and it has nothing to do with percentages.

Phrase length

Single words show your vocabulary. Two and three word phrases are more useful, because that is closer to how people actually search — and because a page can mention roof and repair separately many times without ever saying roof repair.

Common words are filtered by default so the results reflect subject matter rather than grammar. Turn the filter off if you specifically want to see everything, though the output gets noisy fast.

Other things it catches

Accidental repetition, mostly. A word you have leaned on without noticing, usually a verb, appearing eleven times in eight hundred words. Also useful after a rewrite, to check the piece kept its subject rather than drifting into a related one.

One caveat on interpretation: it counts whatever you paste, so headings and navigation text will skew the result if you copy a whole page from the browser rather than the body copy alone.
