What a ballpark is actually for

One thing: working out whether a conversation is worth having. If your budget is a fraction of the range, or several times it, we have both learned something in thirty seconds instead of after two meetings.

It cannot price your project. Real quotes depend on things no form can ask about — integrations with systems that behave unpredictably, content that does not exist yet, approval chains, and how much of the work is genuinely new rather than familiar. That is why the output is a range.

What moves an estimate most

Integrations, by a wide margin. A brochure site is predictable. The same site talking to an inventory system, a payment gateway and a CRM is a different project with different risk, and the risk sits in the systems you do not control.

Content readiness comes second, and it is the one people never budget for. Projects wait on copy and images far more often than they wait on code.

Why not just publish fixed prices

Because identical-sounding briefs differ enormously once you look at them. A fixed price that ignores that either overcharges the simple projects or quietly cuts corners on the complex ones, and you cannot tell which one you are getting until it is built.

If your budget is under the range

Say so early. There is usually a smaller first phase worth doing properly — the core thing that has to work, built well — and that beats a full project done thinly across the board.

The estimate here is an indication, not a quote. A real one follows a scoping conversation.
